CHRISTMAS MARKETS IN KRAKOW, POLAND, CHRISTMAS MOMENTS´2023

This post contains very special data about my visiting Christmas Markets in Krakow, Poland.

KRAKOW CHRISTMAS MARKET 2023: POLAND’S #1 WINTER MARKET
Krakow Christmas Market is the most popular and best Christmas market in Poland. It’s located on Rynek Glowny, the 13th-century square in the centre of the old town. You can’t miss the stalls as they sit between the famous Cloth Hall and the imposing St Mary’s Basilica.

The Christmas market in Krakow is lined with timber huts where they prepare delicious grilled and smoked specialties and slow-cooked hearty soups and goulash. You can also find handcrafted toys and Christmas decorations to take home or give as gifts.

One of the most popular happenings in Krakow is the annual Christmas market at the main square (Rynek Glowny). This event normally opens in the end of November and remains open until December 26th. If you come to Krakow during this period, it is impossible to miss out on the Christmas market at the main square. But, it is also a fact that many people travel to Krakow in this period because of the Christmas market.

The famous Christmas market at the main square in Krakow is a fantastic event. Here you can eat and drink all sorts of local food and drinks. Besides this, you can enjoy programs from a stage at the square. You can watch folklore performances and listen to local Polish music from the area.

Would you like to buy someone a nice souvenir from Krakow? Or maybe you would like to buy some Christmas presents? You can, of course, do that at the Christmas market in Krakow. Do not forget that the square is fantastic, so you can easily enjoy the Christmas market, visit the restaurants at the square, walk through the Sukiennice (clothes hall), and then eat some Polish sausage and taste local vodka.

SNINSKÉ RYBNÍKY, WINTER WALK, NATURE MOMENTS´2023

This post contains very special moments during my winter walk at Areál Sninské Rybníky, natural swimming pool area with natural forest.

Sninské rybníky is a recreational area in the Horný Zemplín region, on the outskirts of the town of Snina, approximately 3 km from its center in the valley of the Bystrá stream.

The recreation area of Sninské rybníky is surrounded by the Vihorlatské vrchy with cycle routes and hiking trails. It is the starting point of the hiking trail, marked with a blue tourist sign to the popular Sninský kamen (1,006.0 m above sea level), from where it is possible to continue to the largest gardened volcanic lake in Slovakia – Morské oku. These natural creations are part of the territory of the Vihorlatsky Forest, Vihorlat, which in 2007 was included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage list in the category of Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and the Ancient Beech Forests of Germany. The reason was the well-preserved beech forests with over 240-year-old specimens.

In the recreational area there is a natural swimming pool which was rebuilt in 2010 from the original three natural swimming pools. It is the second bio swimming pool in Slovakia, using the technology of self-purification of water with the help of plants and algae. It was awarded the BEST tourism product of the Prešov Region in 2014. Its area consists of a swimming pool with three depth zones – an area for small children (depth 0.05 m – 0.4 m), a section for non-swimmers (depth 1.1 m – 1 .5 m) and the swimming part (depth 2.0 m – 3.5 m), which is separated from the non-swimming part by a pier, from the grassy areas for relaxation and from the pool itself, which serves for water filtration and purification. The filling of the biotope is watered from the natural source of the Bystrá watercourse. Sports fields and children’s playgrounds serve visitors for recreation.

POLONINY, SLOWAK NATIONAL PARK, NATURE MOMENTS´2023

This post contains very special nature moments through visiting slowak national park called Poloniny. I visited following villages protected by UNESCO, as follows: Runina, Ulic, Uličské Krivé, Zboj and Nová Sedlica. I have also tested national local food called Pierogy (Tatarčené pirohy) made by hand of people from Uličské Krivé.

Poloniny National Park is a national park in Slovakia on the border with Poland and Ukraine in the Poloniny Bukovské Hills. Bieszczadzki Park Narodowy in Poland and Uzhan National Park in Ukraine are adjacent to this area. The Poloniny National Park was declared on October 1, 1997 on an area of 298.05 km² with a protection zone of 109.73 km².

The name Poloniny comes from the unique mountain ridge meadows located above the forest level, in these parts called poloniny.

In 1993, Poloniny National Park was included in the network of international biosphere reserves by UNESCO. In June 2007, the Stužica, Havešová and Rožok primeval forests in the Bukovské vrchy, along with the Vihorlatský primeval forest in the Vihorlatské vrchy in the PLA Vihorlat and primeval forests in Ukraine were added to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List.

Poloniny, 80 percent of the park is made up of forests where beech stands prevail. Among them are primeval forests, the largest concentration of which is precisely in the Poloniny National Park. A significant percentage of the park area is occupied by meadows on the main ridge of the Bukov Hills, called poloniny. Many species of organisms living in the park are endemic. There are more than 800 species of moss and 100 species of lichens in Poloniny. The vegetation is characterized by the presence of Eastern Carpathian species. On the meadows, the sulfur yellow elder, the Dacian violet, the Herbich’s chervil, the pink hornwort grow, in the forests the Carpathian fireweed, the purple hellebore, the smooth pea and many other plants. There are 5,981 known species of invertebrates and 294 species of vertebrates in the national park. All kinds of salamanders live here from amphibians, and from reptiles, even the largest snake, the tree snake. In 2004, a small herd of maned bison was brought here. In 2016, the bison herd numbered about 25 individuals, while individuals and herds from Poland also migrated to the territory of Slovakia.

TRIP TO LUXOR, KARNAK TEMPLE, VALLEY OF KINGS, RIVER NILE-EGYPT, SUMMER´2023

This post contains very special data during our family trip to Luxor City, which includes Karnak Temple, Valley of Kings, River Nile, Memnosove Kolosy in Egypt area.

Luxor is a modern city in Upper (southern) Egypt which includes the site of the Ancient Egyptian city of Thebes. Luxor has frequently been characterized as the “world’s greatest open-air museum”, as the ruins of the Egyptian temple complexes at Karnak and Luxor stand within the modern city. Immediately opposite, across the River Nile, lie the monuments, temples and tombs of the west bank Theban Necropolis, which includes the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens.

Luxor, the importance of the city started as early as the 11th Dynasty, when the town grew into a thriving city. Montuhotep II, who united Egypt after the troubles of the First Intermediate Period, brought stability to the lands as the city grew in stature. The Pharaohs of the New Kingdom in their expeditions to Kush, in today’s northern Sudan, and to the lands of Canaan, Phoenicia and Syria saw the city accumulate great wealth and rose to prominence, even on a world scale. Thebes played a major role in expelling the invading forces of the Hyksos from Upper Egypt, and from the time of the 18th Dynasty to the 20th Dynasty, the city had risen as the political, religious and military capital of Ancient Egypt.

Luxor, the city attracted peoples such as the Babylonians, the Mitanni, the Hittites of Anatolia (modern-day Turkey), the Canaanites of Ugarit, the Phoenicians of Byblos and Tyre, the Minoans from the island of Crete. A Hittite prince from Anatolia even came to marry with the widow of Tutankhamun, Ankhesenamun. The political and military importance of the city, however, faded during the Late Period, with Thebes being replaced as political capital by several cities in Northern Egypt, such as Bubastis, Sais and finally Alexandria.

The Karnak Temple Complex, comprises a vast mix of temples, pylons, chapels, and other buildings near Luxor, Egypt. Construction at the complex began during the reign of Senusret I (reigned 1971–1926 BCE) in the Middle Kingdom (c. 2000–1700 BCE) and continued into the Ptolemaic Kingdom (305–30 BCE), although most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom. The area around Karnak was the ancient Egyptian Ipet-isut (“The Most Selected of Places”) and the main place of worship of the 18th Dynastic Theban Triad, with the god Amun as its head. It is part of the monumental city of Thebes, and in 1979 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List along with the rest of the city. The Karnak complex gives its name to the nearby, and partly surrounded, modern village of El-Karnak, 2.5 kilometres (1.6 miles) north of Luxor.

The Valley of the Kings also known as the Valley of the Gates of the Kings, is an area in Egypt where, for a period of nearly 500 years from the Eighteenth Dynasty to the Twentieth Dynasty, rock-cut tombs were excavated for pharaohs and powerful nobles under the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt. It is a wadi sitting on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Thebes (modern-day Luxor) and within the heart of the Theban Necropolis. There are two main sections: the East Valley, where the majority of the royal tombs are situated; and the West Valley, otherwise known as the Valley of the Monkeys.

SUMMER FAMILY VACATION IN EGYPT, HURGHADA´2023

This post contains very special data in terms of our summer family vacation in Egypt, Hurghada in Grand Siva Beach Hotel with All Inclusive services.

Egypt, officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a transcontinental country spanning the northeast corner of Africa and the Sinai Peninsula in the southwest corner of Asia. Egypt has one of the longest histories of any country, tracing its heritage along the Nile Delta back to the 6th–4th millennia BCE. Considered a cradle of civilisation, Ancient Egypt saw some of the earliest developments of writing, agriculture, urbanisation, organised religion and central government. Egypt’s long and rich cultural heritage is an integral part of its national identity, which reflects its unique transcontinental location being simultaneously Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and North African. Egypt was an early and important centre of Christianity, but was largely Islamised in the seventh century. Modern Egypt dates back to 1922, when it gained independence from the British Empire as a monarchy.

By about 6000 BCE, a Neolithic culture took root in the Nile Valley. During the Neolithic era, several predynastic cultures developed independently in Upper and Lower Egypt. The Badarian culture and the successor Naqada series are generally regarded as precursors to dynastic Egypt. The earliest known Lower Egyptian site, Merimda, predates the Badarian by about seven hundred years. Contemporaneous Lower Egyptian communities coexisted with their southern counterparts for more than two thousand years, remaining culturally distinct, but maintaining frequent contact through trade. The earliest known evidence of Egyptian hieroglyphic inscriptions appeared during the predynastic period on Naqada III pottery vessels, dated to about 3200 BCE.

Hurghada is a coastal city that serves as the largest city and capital of the Red Sea Governorate of Egypt. Hurghada has grown from a small fishing village to one of the largest resort destinations along the Red Sea coast, stretching close to 40 km. Hurghada’s major industry is foreign and domestic tourism, owing to its landscape, year-round hot and dry climate and long beaches. Its waters are clear and calm for most of the year and have become popular for underwater diving and snorkelling.

MY 35TH BIRTHDAY WEEKEND IN HIGH TATRAS: POPRADSKÉ PLESO, NATURE MOMENT´S, 2023

This post contains very special moments during my hiking at Popradske Pleso in High Tatras, mountains area.

Popradské pleso is a pond in the Mengusovská valley in front of the mouth of Zlomísk below the slopes of Ostrvy and Kôpok. It has an area of 6.88 ha, a depth of 17 m and is located at an altitude of 1,494.3 m above sea level. m.

Near the ball is the Chata pri Popradské pleso (former Chata kpt. Morávku). Popradské pleso is the fourth largest lake by area. There is a symbolic cemetery for the victims of the High Tatras in the limbo grove near the lake.

Pleso was together with Mengusovská dolina in the village of Mengusovce. Even so, it bears the name of the distant city of Poprad. Probably because the Poprad river flows through it, which originates from the marsh below Ostrva. Popradské pleso as (German: Poppersee) is mentioned in the Latin work Bibliotheca, seu Cynosura Peregrinantium, hoc est: Viatorium in duas partes digestum (Liber Secundus) (Ulm 1644) by Dávid Fröhlich from Kežmar. Polyhistorian Matej Bel in 1736 mentions it as Fish Eye. He speaks of it as a ball in which, as the only one on the southern side of the High Tatras, fish lived. The name was taken over by both Hungarians and Germans, but because on the Polish side of the Tatras, Rybí pleso was called Morské oko, they called Popradské pleso Malé rybie oko or Popradské rybie oko. The ball was even referred to as the Mengus Ball, which had a rational basis. In the end, he took over and established the name Popradské pleso.

MY 35TH BIRTHDAY WEEKEND IN HIGH TATRAS: STARY SMOKOVEC, HREBIENOK, OBROVSKY VODOPAD, ZAMKOVSKEHO CHATA, NATURE MOMENT´S, 2023

This post contains very special moments during my 35th birthday weekend.

Starý Smokovec is the oldest Tatra settlement and the administrative center of the High Tatras. The city office is located here, there are hotels, rental companies, and travel agencies. It is located at the intersection of the Freedom Road with the II/534 road from Poprad, between Nový Smokovec and Horný Smokovec. Together with Tatranská Lomnica and Štrbský Pleso, it belongs to the most important Tatra tourism centers.

Hrebienok is a tourist center located above Starý Smokovec at the foot of Slavkovský štít at an altitude of 1,285 m above sea level. m. The emergence of Hrebienko as a tourist center is related to the development of tourism in the High Tatras in the second half of the 19th century. Starý Smokovec, which was granted the status of a spa town at that time, attracted tourists who fell in love with this place.

The beginnings of construction on Hrebienok are linked to the construction of the Bilík cottage, which stood on its northeastern slope. In 1894, a road with a hard surface was built next to the hiking trail. The cable car from Starý Smokovec built in 1908 prompted the construction of the Hrebienok Hotel in 1928. The construction of training meadows and slopes near the hotel began in 1930. In 1956, a 750 m long ski lift was built on the slalom meadow to the Slavkovská lookout, and in 1968 the referee’s tower. Electric lighting of the toboggan run took place in 1959.

Zamkovského chata is a mountain hut located at the mouth of Mala Studena dolina in the High Tatras. In 1993, the Zamkovského cottage was handed over to the heirs of Štefan Zamkovský. During the following years, several renovations were made at the cottage. The new owners of the cottage, after the departure of Ladislav Kulanga to Skalnatá chata, rented the cottage to Mgr. Jane Kalinčíková, who became its owner in 2003. The hut is supplied with food and fuel by mountain porters.

LEVOČA, HISTORY MOMENT´S, 2023

This post contains very special data in terms of my visiting historical royal city called “Levoča”.

Levoča has been registered on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.

Levoča arose from two original Slovak settlements, which were probably ravaged by the Mongols in 1241. The oldest written document in which Levoča is named “Leucha” for the first time is a document of the Hungarian king Bela IV. from 1249. In 1271, Levoča became the capital of the Community of Spiš Saxons. In 1317, it is already mentioned explicitly as a royal city (“civitas nostra regalis”).

Its development was significantly helped by the privilege of the right of warehouse, granted to Levoča by Karol I. Róbert in 1321. This privilege forced foreign buyers to stay in the city for 15 days and offer their goods for sale. In 1402, King Sigismund exempted Levoč buyers from the right of warehouse in other cities, in 1411 he extended Levoč’s right of warehouse to domestic buyers as well. In 1419, the people of Levo were exempted from paying tithes throughout Hungary. This opened up extraordinary opportunities for free trade.

The favorable development of the city culminated at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries and enabled the creation of such artistic gems as the work of Master Pavle from Levoča in the Basilica of St. Jakub. The promising development of the city was marked by extensive fires in the 16th century (1550, 1599) and anti-Habsburg uprisings in the 17th century. Nevertheless, during this period Levoča remained the largest and most important economic center of Spiš, congregations of the Spiš See regularly met here, and in the 19th century the city became an important center of the Slovak national movement.
