This post contains very special moments during my visiting area of High Tatras, especially Štrbské Tarn.

Štrbské Pleso is one of the three local parts of the municipality of Štrba (Štrba, Tatranská Štrba, Štrbské Pleso), in the foothills of the High Tatras. The cadastral territory of Štrbské Pleso also partly belongs to the city of Vysoké Tatry.

Štrbské Pleso is an important center of tourism and winter sports in the High Tatras. It is located on the southern shore of Lake Štrbské Pleso at an altitude of 1,346 m above sea level. It is the highest tourist and health resort in the High Tatras and a center of top sports for Nordic disciplines.

The cadastral territory of Štrbské Pleso (within the city of Vysoké Tatry) includes the settlements of Podbanské (only a part, the rest belongs to the municipality of Pribylina) and Vyšné Hágy. The settlement of Štrbské Pleso, after which this cadastral area is named, was re-attached to the municipality of Štrba by a decision of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic.

The name of the lake is derived from the village of Štrba in the foothills of the Tatras. It is a moraine lake created by a retreating glacier. After Veľký Hincová pleso, it is the second largest water body on the Slovak side of the High Tatras. It covers an area of ​​19.76 ha, its water volume is 1,284,000 m³ and in places it reaches a depth of 20 m. It was first definitively mapped and measured in 1875 by the Budapest professor Dionýz Dezső.

Szentiványi used the lake for the entertainment of the spa guests – boating and fishing. He stocked fish here in 1860. Ice was extracted from the lake in the winter months. Already in the winter of 1872-1873, several wagons were delivered to Budapest restaurants, later to Poprad and Kežmarok butchers, to Wrocław in Poland, but also to the imperial court in Vienna. The ice was transported by carters and trains of the Košice-Bohumín Railway. The last shipment was about February 1902 for a Budapest brewery.

This post contains very special moments during my visiting country of Italy, especially city of Rome and Vatican.

First day of tour: In the morning, arrival in Rome, tour of the Circo Massimo, the place where the huge hippodrome was once located, the Romans loved to compete in chariot races, around the Arch of Constantine, which was already built during the time of Emperor Hadrian, you will visit the Colosseum, a symbol of Rome that has survived for centuries. Gladiator fights took place there, you will visit the Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum, where, for example, the temple of the Westphalians, who protected the eternal fire, is located and according to legend, one of them was Rhea Sylvia, to whom two brothers Romulus and Remus were born and it was they who founded the city of Rome. During the break, you can also individually visit the Domus Aurea or the Church of St. Peter in Chains, where the chains with which St. Peter was imprisoned are supposedly located. You will see the Imperial Forum, where the huge Trajan’s Market is located, we will walk through the Venetian Square with the palaces from which Mussolini addressed the people, you will take a photo of the monument to Victor Emmanuel II, who was the first king of a united Italy. We will visit the Capitol together, where there is a statue of the she-wolf who raised Romulus and Remus, and the wolf is the national symbol of Italy. We will walk past the Marcello Theater and we will see whether you are telling the truth in the Bocca della Veritá, in the mouth of truth with a visit to the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, where the remains of St. Valentine, the patron saint of lovers, are located. We will walk across the island to the Trastavere district, where you will have time for delicious ice cream or visit the church of Santa Maria di Trastavere, where the oil is said to have announced the arrival of the messiah. Board the bus and transfer to the hotel.

Second day of tour: After breakfast, transfer to the Vatican Museums, where you will visit the Sistine Chapel, painted by Michelangelo. You will get to know the Borgia apartments, early Christianity, the Etruscan museum, or the museum focusing on Egypt or Antiquity, and many other parts. You will see St. Peter’s Basilica, located on St. Peter’s Square, which was created thanks to the skillful hands of Bernini. We will walk around Castel Sant’Angelo, which was once Hadrian’s mausoleum, we will walk across the famous Angel’s Bridge to Piazza Navona, which was created on the stadium of Emperor Diocletian. You will see the remains of the stadium, it is one of the most famous Baroque squares. During your free time, you will be able to visit Campo dei Fiori with its famous market. We will pass through Piazza della Rotunda, you will see the work of the architect Agrippa, the Pantheon, we will cross Via del Corso with the possibility of shopping up to Piazza del Popolo, where the church of Santa Maria del Popolo is located, where the works of Cavaraggia are located. Transfer to the bus and return to the hotel.

Third day of tour: After breakfast, transfer to Pincio, from where you will have a wonderful view of the whole of Rome and the Vatican, we will walk through the park of Villa Borghese until we reach Villa Medici, which we will have the opportunity to visit, or during your free time you will be able to sit on the Spanish Steps in the Spanish Steps. You will throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, famous thanks to the film Dolce Vita, The Sweet Life. Opportunity to try local liqueurs such as limoncello. Opportunity to visit the square where Palazzo Quirinale is located, the residence of the Italian president, and we will slowly walk past Palazzo Barberini, where the Tritone fountain is located, we will walk towards Chiesa Santa Maria della Vittoria, which is famous thanks to the film Angels and Demons, where the statues of St. Teresa, the Passion in Flames are located. You will have free time at the baths of Emperor Diocletian, if interested, the opportunity to visit the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Board the bus and depart for Slovakia.

This post contains very special data about my hiking tour at area called Petočová.

The town of Humenné, often called the center or gateway of the Upper Zemplín, is located in the northeastern part of Slovakia, at the confluence of the Laborec and Cirocha rivers. In addition to cultural monuments, it offers an interesting network of trails that will take you through the beauty of the Brestovské Mounds.

The first part of the trail runs past the open-air museum, along Orechová Street. Here you can enjoy a few views of the town of Humenné, perched in the valley of the nearby hills of Ondavská and Laborecká vrchovina. After about 400 to 600 meters, we enter the forest. A surprise is a sign warning of a turnoff to a prehistoric mound. We set off along it. The trail leads through the forest on a gentle slope. After about 150 meters, we find ourselves at a mound that is easy to miss in the forest. From the information leaflet, we know that it is not the only burial mound, so we continue on our way. At the information board at the Handrix viewpoint, we turn onto the yellow sign. The trail climbs through the forest, the walk is slightly difficult. After about 700 meters and an elevation gain of about 100 m, we reach the ridge of the Nižná Hubková hill. A meadow opens up in front of us, with a gazebo perfect for relaxing and having a picnic.

We continue along the ridge towards the Miháliková crossroads, where the blue and red hiking trails connect. The trail leads through the forest, it is in good condition, we meet several cyclists on the way. After an hour and a half of walking, we come to the Petočová crossroads. Here is a monument commemorating the activities of Pugachev’s partisan group in these forests. Along the way, we came across several viewpoints of villages in the foothills (Ľubiša and Veľopolie). The path continues along the ridge through a healthy mixed forest. In one part, we saw massive pine trees up to 30 m high. Elsewhere, the forest resembles a primeval forest, in which tree trunks are wrapped in a tangle of vines.

This post contains very special data about my hiking tour at area in slovak national park called Poloniny, especially at area called Gazdoráň.

Gazdoráň is a nature reserve under the administration of the state nature conservation NP Poloniny.

It is located in the cadastral territory of the municipality of Stakčín in the Snina district in the Prešov region. The territory was declared in 1993 on an area of ​​17.30 ha. The protection zone was not determined. The 4th level of protection applies to the territory of the reserve. The protected area is part of the Poloniny National Park.

The subject of protection are: Xerothermic meadow communities on the flysch Cergow layers of the Bukovské vrchy. These are rare phytocenoses. The occurrence of a critically endangered species – purple hellebore and a very endangered black orchid. Region. dominant of the Starina water reservoir.

In the Poloniny National Park, a new marked hiking trail to Gazdoráň Hill was added in 2022, where a nature reserve is located. with a beautiful view of the Starina reservoir.

The hiking trail leads along the red trail from the village of Príslop past the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. It then continues to the transmitter above the Karcaba site, then through meadows across the Dara Educational Geological Site along the state road to Sedlo Barankovec.

You can also start the hike directly at Sedlo Barankovec or near Starina in the area above Brezovec Bay. From Sedlo Barankovec you can reach the hill following the red hiking trail, past the rest area, where there is a cross and benches.
