This post contains photo gallery during my visiting of Museum of colorful eggs, easter´s decorations in town called Michalovce. Moreover, you will see difficult techniques of easter´s decoartions as part of slovakian traditions.
Happy Easter in Slovakia is considered to be the most important Christian holiday in the national calendar. Good Friday and Easter Monday are official holidays during this season.
Since about 62 percent of the population in Slovakia is Roman Catholic, Holy Week is often celebrated on May Sunday, Good Friday, Good Saturday, and Easter Sunday. Fasting begins 40 days before Easter, and Catholics traditionally eat only one large meal on Good Friday. In the evening on Good Saturday, the Easter holidays are welcome at midnight.
One special Slovak Easter tradition is the creation of decorative, colored and patterned Easter eggs known as “Easter eggs”. This tradition is preserved throughout Eastern and Central Europe, mostly in Slavic countries, but eggs in Slovakia are unique, although very similar to the neighboring Czech Republic.
Another tradition is the special culinary aspect of Slovak Easter. There is a Slovak Easter bread here, which is an inflated, sweet, buttery loaf with a braided cross pattern. This bread was traditionally blessed by the priest after the Easter Sunday Mass. Other common dishes include: potato salad, roasted ham, cold sandwiches, bare eggs, “lump” (Aegean cheese) and roast lamb. Both Easter and Monday are days when you can enjoy such cuisine.
