Sninské Rybníky are a recreational area in the Horný Zemplín region, on the outskirts of Snina, about 3 km from its center in the valley of the stream Bystrá.

The Sninské rybníky recreational area is surrounded by the Vihorlat Hills with cycle paths and hiking trails. It is the starting point of a hiking trail, marked by a blue tourist sign with a blue tourist sign to the popular Sninský kameň (1,006.0 m above sea level), from where it is possible to continue to the largest gardened volcanic lake in Slovakia – the Sea Eye. These natural creations are part of the Vihorlat Forest, abbreviated to Vihorlat, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List in 2007 in the category Carpathian beech forests and ancient beech forests of Germany (Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and the Ancient Beech Forests of Germany). The reason was the preserved beech forests with more than 240-year-old specimens.

In the area of ​​the recreational area there is a natural swimming pool (see: Biokúpalisko Sninské rybníky), which was rebuilt in 2010 from the original three natural swimming pools. It is the second organic swimming pool in Slovakia, using the technology of self-purification of water using plants and algae. It won the BEST tourism product of the Prešov region in 2014. Its area consists of a swimming pool with three depth zones – space for small children (depth 0.05 m – 0.4 m), a part for non-swimmers (depth 1.1 m – 1.5 m) and a swimming part (depth 2.0 m – 3.5 m), which is separated from the non-swimming pool by a pier, from the grassy areas for rest and from the pool itself, which is used for filtration and purification of water. The infiltration of the habitat is connected from the natural source of the Bystra watercourse. Visitors for recreation are used playgrounds for sports activities, playgrounds.

Next to the swimming pool is the camp Autocamping Snina, which is the easternmost camp in Slovakia. It is a seasonal facility, visited by tourists every year from 15 May to 30 September. It offers accommodation in cottages, camping and camping on the lawn.

In the summer months, several well-known music festivals take place in the recreation area in the amphitheater area, such as the Podvihorlat Folklore Festival, Farfest Snina or the most famous of them, Rock pod Kameňom – ​​Snina Open Air Festival. Catering and accommodation services are provided in the recreation area.

If there are any significant dates that were written in golden letters in the history of the Greek Catholic Church in Slovakia, then Tuesday, September 14, 2021 was significantly included among them. On the feast day of the Exaltation of the Holy and Venerable Cross, the Archbishop’s Holy Liturgy was celebrated in front of the Municipal Sports Hall in Prešov, presided over and announced by the Holy High Priest Francis, the High Priest of the Catholic Church.

The gates for the pilgrims opened at exactly midnight, and several dozen believers stood in line before midnight with the intention of obtaining the best possible places, right within reach of the pope’s hand. A few minutes before 4 o’clock, a rich spiritual and cultural program began, which was dominated by prayers such as a cloakroom, a holy rosary, an akath to the Saint Mary’s Mother in Klokočov and was interspersed with performances by various well-known artists, including folk singers Anka Poráčová, Monika Kandrá Kandráč and Štefan Štec, Peter Milenky & Band, Marián Husovský and well-known Prešov woman Katarína Knechtová. The program also included a presentation of the anthem of the meeting called The Celebrated Cross, sung by Father Peter Milenky accompanied by a vocal group.

Shortly before ten o’clock, Holy Father František arrived in Prešov. Behind the scenes, he was greeted with bread and salt by children in traditional costumes from the Šariš region and a married couple, Miroslav and Zuzana Keboví. Miroslav Keba, a carpenter from David, produced the papal throne, analogion and other furniture in his workshop for the Holy Father. After the welcome, the Holy Father got into the papamobile and slowly began to move between the individual sectors. Believers who filled the space in front of the city hall to the last place began to joyfully cheer and greet the Holy Father with the slogans: “Joy of the heart betrays, the Holy Father is coming” or “We have been waiting for you in Prešov” or “Holy Father, give us a blessing! ”With a smile on his face, the Holy Father greeted the pilgrims and gave them his papal blessing.

Pope Francis presided over the Eastern Holy Liturgy, speaking the latter blessings and liturgical entries, the other archaeological parts were led by the Archbishop of Prešov, Metropolitan Ján Babjak SJ, with whom Archbishop Cyril Vasil SJ, the Eparch of Košice and Bishop Peter Rusnák concelebrated. During the break with the bishops, four priests also concelebrated – protosynkeli of the individual Greek Catholic eparchies in Slovakia Mons. Ľubomír Petrík, father Vladimír Skyba, archimandrite Jaroslav Lajčiak and court uncle of Prešov Archieprachie father Jaroslav Pasok. At the beginning, Pope Francis conducted a liturgical dialogue with the two main deacons, Rastislav Varg and Peter Feňák, as prescribed in the sections of the Holy Liturgy. After giving them a blessing in Latin, the Archbishop’s Holy Liturgy began. During the singing of the tropic and the condom of the feast, the Holy Father moved forward from the papal throne in front of the ornate cross of Christ. Subsequently, with his head bowed while the choir sang a beautiful hymn, “We bow down to your cross, Ruler, and we celebrate your holy resurrection,” he remained in silent prayer before the cross.
